I noticed on The Royal Mint's website that they are issuing a new Dianna coin for Alderney under "World Silver" Does anyone know if "World Silver" means bullion? Is anyone familiar as to why The Royal Mint is striking the pieces for Alderney? I see that one of them is limited to 1500 pieces.

I assume "World Silver" in this context means coins made by The Royal Mint for countries other than Britain. Alderney is a British dependency just off the coast of France; British mints (probably either The Royal Mint or Pobjoy Mint) would have struck all their coins.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

As I visited Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney myself on holidays, I can confirm that the Nickel Two pounds coins are only being bought by tourists like myself and the bimetal ones actually circulate alongside British currency.
The Silver coins which are mentionned in the question are only minted in limited editions to please collectors of Silver Coins. They are not bullion, but you can incidentally compare them with silver Maple Leafs, Koala, kangaroo, Kookaburaah, Walking Liberty and so on and so forth...

There have been pictures of it on the PCGS world forum. It is one ugly coin.

valutarick, I do not see any 2 pound coins offered in the 2007 commemorative issue for The Royal Mint. I see 10 and 5 pound sterling and cupro nickel, and 1 pound gold. Also, The Royal Mint states that these commemoratives will not be available until mid-July so I do not understand how you found them already in circulation. As far as the coin being "ugly" I myself find it to be a true representation of Dianas' character and love. I find that beautiful.

There is no "World Silver" link on The Royal Mint website. I did a search and found a listing for it on the site but the links for it are broken. It the 10th anniversary of Diana Death from the Aldernay Islands. Ok I was wrong it wasn't on the PCGS forum, it was on NGC. Link to the thread. http://boards.collectors-society.co...#Post1862875

Happycoin, may I point out that we in the USA can, and do get coins before they are, (officially), released for circulation. If you have ordered coins, bags, rolls, etc fropm the mint, you are aware of this fact. I would assume that. that, may be the case in point. Been there, Done that. BTW, I have an "Aussie", 50 cent coin with Princess Diana, and some "dirty old man". I don't remember where it came from, maybe in a batch of half-dollars, which I buy from the bank frequently. I keep it with the other "World" coins. I do not consider my Mexican coins "world" coins, as I have spent a major portion of my life there! You may say I consider it, (Mexico) to be my second native country. VIVA MEXICO! Dick

Condor101 - sorry about the link..."world silver" is under the "browse by product" link. And thanks for the NGC link to this topic.
livingdinasaur - thanks, I had not considered that.
I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The image on the coin was taken from a photograph of Diana while in Africa.

quote: The only pictures I can find on the PCGS world forum is a Belgium issue ( not from The Royal Mint.
FWIW, there is no such coin from Belgium. What you are probably referring to is a medal (or rather two, one in gold and one in "similor") that the Belgian Mint made. Christian

The most beautiful coin I have ever seen with Princess Dianna was released by Australia in 1992. The Royal Ladies Commemorative set has a very small mintage and stand out as a modern day rarity to me! Have a set and know where another set is quietly sitting with a very low price tag! Sooner or later it will reside at my house as well! I always look at Princess Di coins when I hear of them and have yet to find one to match Australia's design of 92!!!

As far as I know and according to my Coin Yearbook 2007, The Royal Mint has been striking Alderney's coins since the nineties -they are all Commemoratives. I don't even think Alderney can make it's own coins. It is a British dependency in any case.
