Hello,

I have no idea what type of coin I have posted here on this thread.

This coin/token does not stick to a magnet.

If applicable, please indicate the country, year, grade, and denomination.

Thanks,
mdpmedia

Your pictures are a little dark. Can you make them lighter?

Found these images of a fake Lima 8 escudos (obviously not in gold) on another forum. I think you'll find it's identical to yours, down to the corners on the "rough" edge:

I think philadelphian found it
looks like 8 Escudos from Peru

EDIT - copied to my computer and the image is lighter

the date is at the bottom of the reverse between the pillars, 7 4 1 (1741)

I took out the KM# I thought. The images in Krause are a little off, but they are not always accurate. The coin design matches KM# 47, but that design is not shown for 1741. Also, the number 1's on the example in Krause are different from the one above, if that's a one. More research turns up more questions.

This coin is a "pirate replica", not unlike the one posted by Philadelphian above, although there is one curious "alteration": The date has been changed from 1736 to 1741. Or rather, one of the dates has been changed. The dies for these coins actually had the date on them in two separate places; I assume this was because most of the coins struck using them were "cobs", very crudely struck, and putting the date on twice doubled the probability that a legible date would appear somewhere on the coin.

The date Fuzzy found says "1741". The other date is in the legend on that same side, and says "ANO 1736".

I apologize should I be incorrect but I've seen similar described as Templar coins or currency?
