Someday, I hope to visit the Pioneer Memorial - depicted on the reverse of the coin - in Elgin, IL.

I echo the above muddler ... Congratulations on this lovely Elgin addition. A bit curious about the surfaces color in your photographs ... assume that is just an artifact of the photo and not as the coin appears in hand. I've lost track of where you are in this type set ... any update would be much appreciated. Thanks for sharing your newest treasure. David

My film camera is begging for an upgrade, it is a white coin. With this and a recent Lafayette I am down to eight missing examples. This is an endeavor I started as a young man and may be a lifetime for completion.

Quick novice question. What does "Type coin" mean? no mint mark?

I referred to "type" as the early commemorative set is a type of each where there are many multiple types of the same coins with date, mint mark, and assorted other varieties.

Hesitate to reply for concern of driving the OP thread off course and away from his lovely Elgin type set half ... Quote: What does "Type coin" mean? Agreed fully with the replies given above ... and since you themankg have shown an interest in this series ... I extend the courtesy of another reply with all due respect to muddler ... suggest next time you pose your question in a new thread whereby we are not stepping on another valued members contributions. A type coin is an single example of the many potential coins from a series that exhibit the same design and metallic composition ... differences in the design/composition create a new type coin. For example ... you need only one Morgan dollar to have a 'type coin' for the entire series. For the classic silver commemorative series ... there are 50 'type coins' ... due to multiple new designs and of with muddler Elgin 1936 half dollar is just one example. You have few classic commemorative type coins as well ... Returning this thread now to muddler the OP. David

Ok sorry. He mentioned 'type coin' specifically which is why I didn't think I was stepping on any toes by asking what I thought was a relevant question to the post. Wasn't trying to steal anyone's thunder.
Sorry for my bad etiquette.
