There are two silver half-dollars in the modern US series: 1982 Washington and 1993 James Madison/Bill of Rights.

Yes, all of the dollar coins are 0.900 fine silver.

Appears from your post that you have an interest in modern USA commemorative ... if so welcome to the commemorative fab club.

Also appears that you need some knowledge of this series ... so I humbly recommend any number of good books which will address all of your questions if studied with interest.

To your specific questions ... there are actually two modern commemorative half dollars minted in 90% silver ... and indeed all the dollars are also 90% silver.

David

Edit ... commems shared the half dollar answer while I was busy typing. :)

As far as it is my first commerative purchase was a 1983 silver washington ms coin then on this website I noticed ike fans incorporating the ike comm of 1990 and so I bought one slabbed now I have a itch for them I want to acquire a 2013 silver comm for ike collection really like the 1991 mt rushmore and the dolly madison as well. And this fall at the local coin show a fella had the entires texas state comm collection every coin but way out of my price range. This is a nice twist to my collection so far very excited to see and buy more

I'm also working on a full set in both BU and proof, but I'm focusing more on the proofs, I love the proof apperence on these. I also have a few of the $5 gold proofs as well, my favorite of which is the 2011 army (I have all 3 army denominations in PR). Actually all of the millitary theames are my favorites...

I actually prefer the origional government packaging on these.. They wern't made to circulate so 69's and 70's should be expected, not a rarity like it would for circulating coinage. None of the ones I've bought in the OGP would grade below 69 and 70's wouldn't surprise me in the least (although I don't really 'believe' in the mythical perfect 70, no coin is 'perfect'). So for me, I ask myself why would I pay extra for a slab when the ones in OGP are just as nice? Lol. But to each his own.

All you say is true NathanASE. The big advantage to slabbed Commems for me is that slabs take up a lot less space than OGP.

I've been collecting commemorative proofs for quite a while and have nearly all of the years. I'm very disappointed that the prices have fallen over the past six months. However, I noticed my Robert Kennedy set has gone up quite a bit (insert smiley face)

Unless you have them all already dont be. You want them cheap while buying, its when you would want to sell you want to see the prices on the rise.

Yes, now is the time to buy silver commems with the price of silver as it is. Then hang on to them.

One thing you have to remember when buying them new, a portion of the sale goes to the organization being commemorated.

In my view, unless there is a large influx of new collectors for the modern US series (or a significant melting of previous releases), the value of the vast majority of issues will be forever linked to their melt/bullion value.

Yes, there will be some issues that maintain a numismatic premium. And yes, those chasing "perfect" MS-70 graded coins will likely always keep the market relatively strong for such issues. But the supply of "rank and file" examples in original government packaging or in PCGS/NGC MS-69 holders will likely always be enough to support the demand from active collectors of the series.

I've assembled and maintain an uncirculated set of the coins because I specialize in US commemorative coins and enjoy the history behind most issues. I think they are a great set to collect. I caution anyone, however, about collecting these coins for future price appreciation separate from a rise in the silver spot price.

Sadly I agree. Theres to many in the series that most people just couldnt care less about unless youre doing the whole series. The mintage of most of them dont do their future value any favors either.

Intrinsic numismatic..for me its a hobby and I love this hobby and I spend considerable time brainstorming how to "enjoy" my coins..slab boxes are great for slabs just lift the lid enjoy the coins, dansco books even better and they have a page for everything. If they tone or otherwise change thats fine. I at least once a week get em out look at them imagine the trips they have been on. Comms is fun as well I now have about 5-6 clad halfs and I am chasing a 1991 mt rushmore buck!! Love to hear other collectors great info my friends!!
