I was doing some CRH'ing and saw my first specimens of the two new 2013 quarters (also didn't know any had come out!), and then while choosing the best of them to keep in my album, I saw a difference in one. I don't have the experience or examination software that others have. Is this PMD, or a die chip or other kind of error?

Looks PMD to me... but the closest picture is kind of blurry. But from what I can see looks like something dinged it.

Not a die chip which would be raised above the field of the coin.... looks like it got dinged ie. PMD.
Rest in Peace

Does not look like a ding to me..looks like grease..A ding would leave sharper edges I would think.

Yup grease or a strike through some soft material. I doubt it is PMD.

Its not post mint damage. If it was then the letter N would have damage on it as well.

Looks like a small area that was Struck Through Grease or debris. It's hard to tell because it doesn't seem to have caused any depression on the N or the T.

I'd say it's a very good chance it's a strike through of a small bit of grease.

Does the area above the depression look like scratches or more debris just on the surface? I hate to sound like a broken record, but a clear photo of the are would help with a clearer answer. Or maybe there were a lot of waves that day.

Struck through. I have seen it on 2012 uncirculated quarters and nickles.

HEY ! Sorry I am new here and I just signed up to this forum to show you that I actually found this quarter tonight (from a local bar as change) and it seems that I have the same "error" as you do.

Since I have found a pretty much identical "error" I feel that it could not have been PMD. My opinion is very sketchy, in that I am very new to numismatics, however I think that it might have something to do with the coin being a new product, and perhaps the mint has not perfected the design. What do you think?

Check out the pics:
