Received my Caribou coin today and noticed that there is a very fine line on the obverse
The line looks raised, rather than depressed. And it begins near the rim of the coin and ends after reaching the queen's hair. I opened the capsule(!) and took a few photos. Coin experts, any comment please? Is this a die crack? Or just a scratch?

@arianzo: I don't need a loupe to see it. very easy to see
@mts: I will return it anyway, but it matters to me because as a learning process I want to be able to tell what it is.

If the line is raised, it would likely indicate that the coin was struck with a scratched or cracked die. If the line is not raised/in relief, it is most likely a scratch that occurred after the coin was struck.

I don't know what the market is for NCLT coins with die cracks, if this was a circulation coin it would likely command a premium price from collectors of such coins.

That's very unfortunate, shopaholic!

It sure looks like a scratch to me and if I was you, I would return it.

It does appear that the mint's quality control crew has been falling down on the job recently.

To me it looks like it was struck through a hair.
If not a thread from a cloth then it might be a die crack.
Truly a rare error. I have a powder coated finger print on a Proof set on the dollar. I was the one to take the cellophane covering off the box upon inspection. I did not return it.

Pictures can be deceiving. It looks like a scratch however if it is a die crack then I would keep it.

with @cownick. Looks more like a struck through than a die crack or a scratch. Particularly looking at the way it goes across the A and up over the rim. But it's always hard to tell from pictures.

You should open the capsule, get an air compressor can and blow some air in there... what you are seeing could be just a piece of plastic (from the capsule)..... this happened to me before. Good luck.
