Darn, I guess you will never be able to tell from these pics. Well my main question is about the green stuff. will that Verdi-care product fix it. or is the coin now a problem coin?

well I cant tell about full steps and I don't see the verdigris you are talking about
looks to me like a nice toned MS coin

I think I see the verdigris.How about a dip in pure acetone?As far as the steps goes,need a close up pic and need to know how many steps would be "full" steps in that year.Also it would be easier to get good pics if you take it out of the holder.

Nickels aren't generally subject to verdigris unless they are seriously mishandled.
I personally would think PVC.
And if that's the case acetone would be VERY helpful.
