Hey all. I have a goal to do 10 bags today through the Ryedale and keep some stats more accurately than previous posts.
Unfortunately, through testing I discovered I did not calibrate properly to catch pre-1941 wheats until this morning, so that is a rookie mistake on my part! :(
I have already run two bags through normally and on re-sort (process to check zincolns for pre-1941s). I tested a few times with small samples of pre and post 1941 wheats to double check before I ran this time.
I have found so far (thru 2 bags): 86 Canadian (28 on resort, unexpectedly) 39 wheats (9 on resort - 7 of them pre-41)
Unfortunately, two of the resorted wheats I found were FUBAR (a 1929 and 41) so they aren't worth much. But hoping for better condition. I will update on other bags as they are completed.

10 bags have been sorted and processed today. My final totals are:
488 Canadian cents 195 Wheat cents (a bunch of pre-1941)
Will be sorting through them to see if there are any good dates or good condition.
A great day to be a CRHer.

what is the significance of 1941 a 1940 LWC should weigh the same as a 1942 LWC

Weight is not the issue.
Before 1941, the metal content was not as pure as later years. Why? Who knows, not as good smelting techniques, more impurities, etc.
Therefore, these earlier coins will reject with a copper sample coin (a 1981) in the machine. The Ryedale guy has a resort process he recommends to catch these earlier wheats by switching to a zinc, adjusting the mechanism, and resorting. This has helped to catch more wheats as well as many more Canadian, which are notorious for having many different metal contents and megnetisms thanks to the Canada Mint's experimenting with other materials.

No problem fuzzy, I want to help others be productive and avoid doing triple and 4x the work and making silly mistakes like I did. I'm happy with my results though so far.
I checked all dates and had about 10-12 that were pre-41, nothing too special, one booked for .50 in G4, and that's about what it is, but that is ok, I also found some nice examples to fill my album out more nicely.

Did you ever weigh the bags pre sort? I just started doing this; my first 2 29.4 and 29.5 pounds.
