Can direct fit air tites be safely used on Gold Buffalos?
Thank you

Sure why not? As far as I know they are made of clear inert acrylic, which won't affect coins. My favorite air tight capsules are ex Royal Mint screw capsules, taken from proof sets. They are usually available from two dealers that I am friendly with. I can usually find these capsules in exactly the right diameter for the coin.

Thanks for the response.
I'm not concerned about chemical reaction, gold doesn't react to very much, no copper in the gold buffalo.
I was wondering about if it fit and could remain in the capsule safely. Seems like the buffalo coin is thick and soft. I've seen jewelry made of nuggets get heavily worn just wearing them around the neck, and nuggets aren't hardly ever 24k.
Seems like it would be OK, but like to hear from someone that knows how they actually fit in the capsule, and if there are any horror stories out there.
Thank you

There are different types of air-tites. I think the best ones are with foam inside. And of course, direct fit. I own both and they seem good but I still like the foam ones better.

No, told they come in sheets of 20 connected individual pouch like containers, that lay flat, but I might get many and want to put them in tubes. Also have heard of them falling out of the pouch like containers. Airtites would look nicer, store easier, and be more durable, I think. But there may be problems I'm not aware of. Why doesn't the mint put them in similar capsules as airtite? Problems?

Right, the ones with the insert would surely be OK, I think, but I was wondering about the direct fit ones.
Thanks

Sounds like you got the bullion version, I was thinking of the uncirc or proofs that come with a big packaging display.
The mint actually does use air tites for a lot of their products. The proof and uncirculated gold, same for the ASEs, Commemoratives ect.
Im not sure how the bullion ones come from the mint for gold, but if they come in the sheets they shouldnt fall out unless someone cut them to close to the pocket and opened up a seem on the side.

That may be exactly what happens, cutting too close.
The congressional law mandating the gold buffalos states the mint must put them in individual containers. The mint puts them in the pouch like containers to comply, heard they had problems don't know anymore.

The gold Buffalo's are 32.7mm in diameter and 3mm thick. You shouldn't have any problem finding an airtite capsule to secure your coin.

Right, airtite says the same one that is used for the Golden Eagle is for the Buffalo. Direct fit.
Just wondering if anyone has heard of any abrasion problems with the direct fit container use. Probably OK, hate to find a problem after I'm in for a lot of money. I don't like the Golden Eagle, they goofed up the bably eagle's bill upon magnification, bothers me, and the Krugerrand is reported over 25 sales.

All I can say is whatever the mint used for the reverse proof buffalo is too big. Mine flops around inside the direct fit container...

Some coins can become tightly lodged in the direct fit airtites (metal and plastic expand/contract at different rates). I've also heard of the direct fits developing cracks due to temperature swings. All I ever use is the airtites with the foam ring.

The ones with the foam inside are better.

I much prefer the direct fit. No offense to anyone, but I think the foam rings look DIY cheesy. Always been a "tailored" guy , one size fits all looks cheap to me. Just IMHO.

That is what I was concerned about, and potential damage.
