KM# 335, Buttrey and Hubbard 1829, Don Bailey DB#501, scarce. Scored this at a local coin show for $9. It was mis-labeled as Durango KM-320. The sellers are pros and I am sure they made money on the coin. Sorry cat hair in pic.

These guys also had some 2 and 8Rs SUDs in OLD holders referenced by Guttage numbers. I remember 3007, 3008, and 3011. Was tempted to buy them out but know very little about this series. Does anyone know of a good reference in this regard?

Nice find and VERY good for the price. I would buy them all day long at that price.

Nice score. What was the asking price range on the SUD 8s? I will usually pass on them from lack of knowledge but sometimes the price is too tempting.

Nice find! Pretty smooth surfaces, relatively... the date area isn't much there, but still, compare to this dog poop that brought over $100 a few years ago:

Funny, if you look at the sunburst from the 1828 Durango and match that with the eagle from the 1824 version, it's sort of like the Occidente type... so I could see how someone might have assumed Durango quickly here (some sellers just don't try very hard).

SUD/Oaxaca types - "I will usually pass on them from lack of knowledge but sometimes the price is too tempting"

Same here... so many different varieties I don't bother, but generic "type" examples used to be really cheap and sometimes you come across a kind of "legacy pricing" from non-specialist sellers (e.g., caught a decent detail SUD 2R for $4 last year in dealer inventory). I think that in general applies to the State Coppers as well... anybody working simply off Krause (especially a slightly older version like I still have) just won't understand the demand for these in better grade.

SUDs were going for $20-$80, very nice shape but steep price considering I know very little about them.

Some familiarity with states' coinage and am always on the lookout. States' coins are hard to grade and have really increased in value in the last five or six years.
