Hi all. I often see TPG'ed coins being described by their (presumably reputed) sellers as " previously associated with the well-regarded Canadiana Collection", without any hint put in the comments section of the slab/pouch. Any idea what is this collection, and why no TPG-ers identified this on their slab/pouch? Also, any way to verify such claims? Regards! Edited by osmiumblue 12/09/2013 10:44 am

A collection sold in a NY Heritage Auction about 3 years ago. Waxman collection of coins?

Thanks so much, Zonad! Google proved to be utterly useless, but your hint and a simple search in the Heritage Auction's website worked wonders: http://www.ha.com/c/search-results....tt=canadianaAny details (e.g. if it was a "single" collection, or a collection made from many collections) will be appreciated too. Thanks again!

Quote: Waxman collection of coins? Al Waxman? I thought the guy in the upper left of the Calgary Coin looked like him. Didn't know he was a collector. http://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/canada.htmI believe some of the coins in the Canadiana Collection were ex-Belzburg 2003,these could not have come from Waxman as he died in 2001.I think the Canadiana sale was a collection of collections.

Thank you for the info, DBM. I will read the linked page. The HA Canadiana sale is mentioned right below the 1936 penny entry in my Charlton catalog, to describe the dot cent. I also happen to buy a Pittman '36 penny today and looked that up before the purchase. Now, how did I miss that line ...

I believe the collection was assembled by father of Isaac Waxman. Isaac was a dealer who did coin shows but now I think he has a stable of racehorses. Googled Isaac Waxman coins.

If you go to Abebooks you can get a copy of the auction catalog. The collection and Isaac toured with Heritage to coin shows in US and Canada.

Wow! Thanks for all the info, Zonad! I'll check them out. It would have been really nice if the TPGs put a proper pedigree based on the sale on their slabs/pouches. Or if they were sold in slabs/pouches, and the catalog lists their certificate numbers, it might be easy to convince the TPGs to re-slab/re-pouch them with a "The Canadiana Collection" pedigree -- won't that be cool!

And yes, I already know about the "...the coin, not the slab" rule .

Thanks for the info Zonad. Seems I prematurely jumped to the wrong conclusion,....again. Now I'm doubly curious as to why Al Waxman appears on Calgary Coins pages.

Collection was that of Warren Waxman, father of Isaac ... from Hamilton Ontario Canada. Waxman Scrap Metals and Recycling I believe is the family business.

Thanks. This is turning out to be a very interesting knowledge-base. I hope one day the "Canadian Coin Facts" (see left panel on this page) will be completed and augmented with such valuable information on pedigree.
