Hi, I'm not even sure if I'm in the right fourm, but I was wondering about finding out about a coin I was given. We were told we could sell it or keep it for ourselves, but we have no clue about it or it's value. Or even if we decide on selling it where we would go, or where to store it if we keep it. It's a Mirrored Brockage nickle, graded EF-45 from CCCS not sure about the date.. Thanks !

It's a desirable error and quite valuable, though I can't be as specific to give you a reliable estimation.

Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated! Now I know that I should never let my son see it, so it doesn't end up lost or in his "weird" (his words not mine) coin jar!

I'm guessing it could fetch $400+ It's to bad it isn't in better condition but still a very neat coin to own, If you keep it tuck it away with an approx value listed on it so others know and don't get snowed if they sell it. If you sell it, place it on ebay, let people here know and the price will rise.

Very nice, well centered. Hard to tell from the pics but it looks like small beads between 65 and 78.

this coin would go north of 1K at auction.

In this case a newly-struck nickel clung to the hammer die as the latter retracted. A fresh planchet was fed in beneath the nickel and the two were struck within the same collar.

So it was struck with the inverted die set-up?

No. The reverse die is the hammer die in presses that strike Canadian coins.

Obverse brockages seem to be relatively much more common.

You'd probably attract more eyeballs if you include the word "Error" in the auction description. You might also consider listing it concurrently in the World:Errors category on ebay.

No. The reverse die is the hammer die in presses that strike the majority of modern Canadian coins.
