The ten-sided cent sold for $500 Canadian. On boxing day, instead of going to sales with my wife,I think I'll spend some time in the garage making ten sided coins so we can afford to pay for all the money she's saving.

I just had a disturbing thought: The "lucky" purchaser rushes to a friend and asks, "Did I do good?" What can the friend say, except "NO?"

Take a close look at denticles and the sides and ask yourself a few questions to determine whether its real or fabricated. The answer is in the picture.

Holy Cow. The even sadder thing is that all these coins were bid up by under-bidders to those crazy prices. And none of them have any idea how close they came to losing their hard-earned dollars to a poor load of chicanery. I mean, I can see the seam running around the rim of the pennydime even on my archaic monitor... man...

so lets see... a machine shop job , a dip job, and a magicians piece...........now just where is my fabrications box.......I need cash. When it comes to coins especially so called errors, there just seems to be dumb, dumber, and dumbest. Tanks for sharing!

I guess the bidders did not consider the impossibility of a 10-sided 1949 die--or a 10c/1c? Expensive lesson! It's pretty easy to tell it's PMD, given how the metal is raised on the "sides".

When I see "no returns accepted" on an unusual item I get more than a little gun shy.

Quote: A ten-sided octagon is extremely rare! It's up there with the incalculably scarce eight-sided cube!
