Talking about low commemorative mintage, I just saw on one of the coin sites that the 2018 Korean immigration $1 coin is seeking a total mintage of only 10k! I was really excited about the theme but then I saw that mintage number and wasn't happy.
We'll have to wait and see if the recently introduced (12/12/13) Korean Immigration bill gains any traction. This bill has been introduced in Congress multiple times over the last decade - the first time being in September 2002 - and has never garnered much support.

Personally, I don't support this bill. My displeasure with the bill has nothing to do with the subject being commemorated. Korean Americans have played a significant positive role in the development of the US over the last century and our current diplomatic friendship and partnership with South Korea is much appreciated. However, the bill calls for a 2018-dated coin to mark a centennial that occurred in 2003. Why mark a centennial on the 115th anniversary of an event? To me, this falls into the "abuse" category of our commemorative coinage.

I also don't like the mintage figures included in the bill - 20,000 gold half-eagles and 10,000 silver dollars. Why such a limited mintage for each coin? An attempt to artificially create scarce coins in the modern series? Why more gold coins than silver? I believe such an arrangement would surely upset collectors.

This bill just seems odd to me and I can't help but question the coin sponsor's true motivation.

I would expected the design of McArthur's bronze medal would be more elaborated.... however, the overall design of the set make it very displayable and attractive.... add to that is the low mintage of both the unc half dollar and unc silver dollar. This will make great gift to those like military theme.

It's official: "Sold Out" for 2013 5-Star Generals Commemorative Coin Program Uncirculated Clad Half-Dollar (5G6).
We will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to see the sale number (up to December 29th).

I am 99% sure that the number will be lower than the 2011-D Army Half (even when including the number of Half sold in the 5* General Profile Collection).

SA4H... doing the math based on the uncirculated numbers from today's spreadsheet... I am thinking we will miss the mark for lowest.

Based on the spreadsheet: 28,715 + 10,715 = 39,430 (uncirculated + profile set)

37,967 is the current total as of Dec 29 according to CoinNewsNet, 2011-P Army is 39,461. Looks like this one will be the new low issue. The $5 Unc gold is at 5674 only 500 above the 1997-W Jackie Robinson which is 5174.

Btw, are we overlooking the clad Half Proof Commemorative as it's also having the lowest mintage (previous lowest was 60,000+ right?)

It's official.
Cumulative Data Sales as of January 5, 2014:
1) Clad Proof: 37,338 + 9,999 = 47,337 LOWEST vs 68,349 (previous low)
2) Unc Clad: 27,168 + 10, 929 = 38,097 LOWEST vs 39,461 (previous low)

The presentation set w/ Bronze medal final number: 10,929.
Other number to look at is the 2013-W Burnished ASE at 206408+ (the Annual $1 Unc Set still available, so far have sold 27,467). Previous year lowest was at 230,872.

I too have the Profiles collection! I also have extras of the uncirculated half - since I figured early on it was going to be a low seller.

I think next year with the US Marshals Commemorative Coins will be another low-minted half dollar.

The 1997 Law Enforcement Silver Dollar had only 28,575 minted and I believe the comparable 1996 Community Service Silver Dollar had only 23,500.

Good opportunities are coming.

All I can say is joining this site has made me a more informed collector. Glad I bought a Profile set and an extra Uncirculated 5 Star half dollar.

Even with the final mintage number publicized, the over all moods/reactions of collectors/market seemed to be moot. What made the reactions to this coin different than the 2011-D Army Half? Was it because the 2011-D Army Half sold out suddenly w/o prior notice?

I believe that if a few dealers with quantity of the coin in their inventory start promoting its scarcity, the market will react (at least initially).

Whether the market will sustain any such dealer-created interest will then be up to collectors and their wallets.

So that's how some dealers called themselve "market maker", I guess.
