I have a 2 cent piece with doubling but in a way I have no experience with. It appears on the far left of coin.

I will hold off my opinion. I am very green when it comes to errors, but am learning and thus don't want to mislead you. I would be interested to find out though as this forum is great practice for spotting the errors. I just wanted to really drop a line and say... either way, nice coin!

to CCF Hflirn! I cannot see any doubling in the image you posted - can you state specifically what you see or possibly post a close up of the area? That would be very helpful.

I don't see anything that jumps out at me other than some pretty bad corrosion. there are no obvious variety markers.

It looks like ghosting. I may be crazy but I had thought it was punched over a misfed 5 cent possibly :-/ There is a faint top cross my camera won't pick up over ribbon...

I'm not seeing any doubling or anything that looks odd myself on your coin. There is a very distinct double die 2¢ piece from 1867, it will show complete doubling on the arrow heads and shafts as well as the entire motto and top of the shield. See photo below of a MS64 RB one in a PCGS holder for comparison. I'm thinking that what you are seeing is due to the combination of corrosion and scratches,

I don't see doubling. Westcoin's sweet example shows the extent of what the doubling strike indicators should appear like. Obviously a more worn coin, like yours, would not have all the MS64 indicators but many would still show and I don't see them. Sorry.

Yep on a extremely worn example you can still tell even if the motto is worn off, as long as the arrow heads are visible, (left side most likely) the bottom of them will be obviously doubled. They DDO is fairly common in under VF grades, the nicest two I've owned are MS64RB and MS63BN (both sold) I think I have an EF45 and several VF's along with half a dozen G-VG examples, mostly found at coin shows unattributed or on ebay for cheap. They are probably the most dramatically doubled coin of the 1800's. The 1955 Lincoln Cent is probably the most obvious DDO coin ever produced. I think the photo is from PCGS but I could be wrong, it may have been the one I had and sold. I had the photo on my computer from a long time ago and is wasn't labeled properly to know for sure. My MS64RB was in an NGC holder. I don't remember the little tick above the motto lie the photo shows (that is what is keeping that one from a higher grade, I'd bet). As to the OP's seeing some sort of a cross or surface disturbing, I'd bet is is related to the corrosion from a long time ago. Try soaking the coin in acetone for a couple of days, see if any of the surface contamination comes off revealing more. It could also be clashing but I doubt that clashing would still show up on a lower grade worn coin like his. Clashes are not uncommon in the series, but I rarely come across them in my searches. Most obvious clash marks appear on the reverse with the horizontal shield lines showing up at the bottom of the 2 and around the field on both sides of the base of the 2.
