Dear People,

I've got this very rare coin in my possesion, and I hope to get some tips to sell it. I've been contacted to Simon coupland. He does resaurch on Carolingian coins. And he told me it is this coin, when I got an determinated from an auction house.

I wonder however, there are some small differences between my broken coin below and the coin from the auction house. For example the cross seems to look different in the circle and the other side you can see there stood colonia but there is no cross between colo nia . Is this an variety of the coin? and is there more discription of it somewere?

The dicription of the coin from the auction house. Also picture 3:

Only five pieces in public collections.

Answer of Simon coupland
Yes, indeed, this is a coin of Louis the Pious from Cologne, minted in his second period, between 816 and 823. I know of just six other finds: three in a famous 19th century from France , and three finds from the Netherlands: one in Wijk bij Duurstede, a single find from there, and another in Groningen. So it's great for me to know about one more find - I am trying to assemble as full a list as possible of all single finds from 751 to 864, and for this coin type of Louis the Pious in particular. I

Thanks to Simon Coupland. An Researcher off carolingian coinage. He could give me an picture of an similair coin with no cross. IT aint be sold in an auction. So I couldn't find it in those records. Seems to be that off the 5 known some has an cross between the O and the I and one has not. Same as mine has not an cross between the O and the I as for the pictures I posted aswell in the Topic.

Hereby the picture of the cologne coin with no cross. And with no piece missing.

I am looking for an Collector for this coin in Post one. Which I have in my collection. However due to its rarity and it has nevver been sold before I was wondering were I can find such person?
The only one COLONIA coin from louis the pious which is sold in an auction was with cross between the O en the I. This one has nevver been in an auction.
I was wondering if someone could give me tips about selling this one. It has an higher price class because it is an unique one.
Im not familair with German websites and the language is difficult. But because it is an german mint the possible best way for selling is over there.
When someone has suggestions they aswell can send me an PM about it.
