I have a cull 1909-s that I keep going back and forth on- I think I see the vdb, then I'm convinced I'm seeing things... I have a feeling you're doing the same with yours... If you got a good enough price on it, maybe it's worth a shot sending it to graded and see if they see it?

That's exactly what I was thinking, jd. I was just getting some opinions for now. I also outlined the "V D" that I can see, but it could just be wishful thinking...lol

Is there any way to bring it out with acid? I know it can be done on Buffalo nickles that have had the date worn away.

I think you are seeing things that aren't there... a V looks like a V on the VDB coins.

Acid would be a waste of time - proving it is a VDB would not help if you destroyed the coins numistic value.

I agree it is a cool coin - but it doesn't look like there ever was a VDB on it.

There were only a few obverse dies used in the production of 1909 s v.d.b. cents; matching the obverse to one of the known 1909 s v.d.b. obverses would confirm your suspicion.

Unless of course, the same obverse dies were used in non v.d.b. cents, but I don't think they were.

Errorcoins beat me to it.....that's the route I would go if you think it is a VDB.

(also where you have drawn the V and the D in the pictures...they wouldn't be that small...bigger than what you have drawn.)
