Hi my aunty took this to the pawn shop along with some soverigns and other items and nearly gave it away for nothing but she decided against selling this one. She is around 80 and was given this when she was a child by her family. She is of greek descent from an island near asia minor but her parents emigrated to an african country (not sure where) before she was born.

It has some greek letters on one side ΣΥ.ΡÎ' ΚΣ or something similar. Anyone got any clues? Sorry if this is a lousy post this is my first one and I haven't got a clue about these things.

Thanks

Firstly. Welcome to CUFF! Looks like a replica of an ancient Greek coin in a bezel. The bezel and coin are likely silver. There may be said 0.925 engraved on but test it with a magnet and if it doesn't stick then its silver.

Thanks for your reply and the welcome. This is the back side. What is the likelyhood that this is an original era coin? :) I would probably think near zero. If its a replica (but silver) does it have any value over the value of the silver?

It's 100% a replica. It's also quite low quality too I'm afraid so if it is silver (probably not) I'd say melt or a tiny bit over for curiosity value. It looks more like some sort of lead/tin/white metal.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will let her know. She will probably keep it. I will update once I know if its ferromagnetic. If I get some time I will take it down the jewellers maybe they can test if it's silver.
