Here is another recent acquisition. I like this year and MM a lot, I try and grab these up if I can find them for a good price. What do you guys think about this one?

Quote: MS62/63
Yeah, this is one where the nature of what we see on the cheek - very difficult to accurately portray in photographs - makes all the difference for the coin. I am very_much_bothered by what I'm seeing on the lower right quadrant of the reverse - it strongly resembles the result of a PVC plasticizer infection. There are a few spots on the obverse as well. I would be seriously considering a preventative soak in acetone with this one, ClubMedka. Do a Forum Search using the term "acetone" - we discuss its' use frequently and it's a process you must do carefully for safety - and please consider it for this coin.

Thanks for the input everyone, I was thinking it was 62 myself. If it has a chance at 63, even better. I tried to get the best picture to accurately show the bag marks on her face, it is pretty much how it is in hand during cartwheeling. SsuprDdave, I was wondering what that could be... You can definitely see it on the coin in light and it isn't marks. I will definitely give this thing a bath. I was a mechanic for a long time, so I am familiar with volatile materials and safety. Also, on a side note, is it wrong that I really like the smell of gasoline? :) I will try and update this thread with new pictures after I get a soaking on this coin. Thank you for the advice.

MS62 to me. As it stands PVC scum is forming and could turn into pitting.

I'd give it a couple of hours in the first bath, swish it in fresh solution and then a couple more hours even if the first bath erased it (which I expect it to). And I like the smell of gasoline too.

Ok, here are some new pictures after the acetone bath. I used SsuperDdaves shot glass/McDonald Coke glass method which was pretty easy to manage. The stuff is definitely gone. Whatever it was, wasn't suppose to be there. I am betting it was PVC infestation. Well here are the new pics, thanks for helping me get it straight on this Lady Liberty!

Much better now and looks like the PVC had not turned into hydrochloric acid and started pitting the coin yet, great news!!!
I think I'm at MS63 now with the gunk gone, and the newer photos.

Thanks Westcoin! Yeh, it actually looks a lot better than it did prior, and I learned how to spot that stuff for future coins. I actually had 2 other coins with a questionable surface residue I found after looking through the collection again. They both got the same treatment and they both came out nicer than before. I probably will just do a soak on all the coins I get from here on out.... But if this gets 63 then that would be great!

Excellent! The fact that it disappeared so quickly and cleanly proves that it was PVC, and you've just saved a wonderful coin for posterity.
