According to Kravitz book "A Collectors Guide to Postage and Fractional Currency" it appears to be a FR-1255. That is, a 10c, Third Issue, Greenback, with printed signatures, and no position indicator. The last issue of the Bank Note Reporter shows a value range of $25 in Fine to $100 in CU. As for a grade, I'm going to waffle and say that I'd want to see it before giving an opinion. It has a small tip fold and some roughness to the bottom margin so I doubt it is in XF. It also has what appears to be wrinkling, possibly from humidity or water damage. Just as a guess I am thinking a F-VF. As to the "5" I don't have clue. I can't tell for certain if its printed or handwritten from the photo and I don't find any info as to its reason. Possibly a banker or merchant counting mark? The guidebook shows that a qty of almost 170 million of the 3rd Issue 10C notes were printed with 10.5 million outstanding as of 1884.
