I am fairly new to this and mostly look at Cents, but I came across this unusual Dime. It pretty much looks like a repunched mint mark as well as a double strike. Anybody seen one like this? Thanks.

When I enlarged the photo to 400% it looks like a D over an S.

It's a puzzler.

Looks like a D over something...but not being as familiar with Dime MM's its hard for me to tell. They had D,P and S MM's that year.

to the CCF.

This coin exhibits tremendous Machine Doubling ... as evidenced in every legend shown in your photo ... best view is the date which has strong Machine Doubling.

The Denver mint mark is also affected ... alas this is not a valuable coin but rather a nice curiosity that I would keep.

It can't be a "S" mint mark as they were only proof dimes that year. This is a "D". I see a lot of flow lines on the coin which would indicate a LDS/VLDS die state when the coin was struck. But what is going on the coin above the mint mark from 2:00 to 5:00? Better images of the mint mark would help a lot though.

Thanks coop. That's the thing that's been bugging me. I am only using my phone camera (Galaxy III, which isn't bad), but I need to somehow get a better image. I appreciate the comments (others) about Machine Doubling...but when you look at the MM and then again at the doubling, it causes me to think other things. I don't know enough about dimes to know the transitions, etc. and if this could possibly fit into that category. Any suggestions on better imaging I am open to. Thanks.

Some have tried taking images through a magnifying devices. Even through looks. Others use microscopes. The scope and a camera is the way I take my images of micro photo's.

The mark that is concentric on the coin is damage to the coin turning it into a cull coin. But I see nothing valuable on it any way. Looks like a spender to me.
