It's a genuine planchet defect. It looks like a tapered planchet ending in a rather unusual-looking straight clip.
Error coin writer and researcher.

Wow. So it's a two-for-one? Should I check the thickness?

My dad suggested clip on the bigger part and blakesly on the smaller area.
