This poor old darlin' will never again be the belle of the ball.....she's been used and abused.....rode hard and put up wet.....but, whatever her appearance, with a mintage of 14,000, she's still a keeper, and brings me one step closer to completion of the set.

Yeah guys, I agree - she's in pretty poor shape.....a filler, but, given the fact that there were only 14,000 minted in 1879, its one of the scarce ones, and, in my opinion, a desirable coin in any grade.

EFLargeCents - thanks for the link - very informative. I was unaware of Mr. Bowers purchase; thus, I was of the opinion that the 1879 was pretty scarce in any grade. Not being a wealthy man, I sometimes settle for a lesser grade in my quest to complete a set. I'm down to needing eleven more to complete the Seated Liberty dimes Set, and the ones yet to be acquired are all pretty expensive in the better grades, so.....I settle.
My take on the mintage (14,000) came from the 2013 RedBook, but the link shows a different mintage number - still not all that high, though.

Completing the Seated dimes set in any grade is quite an accomplishment! Being only 11 away, congrats and happy hunting for those tough ones!

Boy, don't I know that! Some years back, when I first started the set, I had visions of completing it in, at least, fine, but it didn't take long to realize that was merely a dream (wishful thinking).....big hopes, and a thin wallet....
I still need the 1860-O, 1863, 1864, 1865, 1866, 1867, 1871-CC, 1872-CC, 1873-CC, 1874-CC, and the 1885-S - if you're familiar with the series, and are aware of the prices asked for the coins I'm missing, you can understand exactly what I mean when I say I've still got a long ways to go.

I forgot to mention - I have my set posted in the members photo gallery, if you'd care to check them out.
I have them housed in a dansco album, and I only posted scans of the obverse pages, but I think they look good even with only those pages posted.....lots of time and effort invested in putting them together.
