When I heard the story at the start of the game I wondered it it might be a 1964! Thanks for sharing the whole story & photo.

The coin used was a Peace dollar. It was intended to commemerate the game, not a person.

Being a Navy brat I must say I did enjoy the game.
This is by far my favorite college game of the year

My neighborhood fronts on the Delaware River, and for drinking purposes, is solidly Navy territory this time of year. A lot of dress blues in the streets. My nephew recently graduated from West Point, and spent one semester in exchange at the Naval Academy. While there, he was chosen as the Army cadet entrusted with the ball in the days before the game. Apparently, the tradition is for the cadets on the other side to try to procure this ball from him before game day. By any means necessary. He ended up sleeping in the physics lab, hiding under equipment.

As a retired Navy even numbered Chief, yesterday's game was a great one. Too bad there has to be a loser though. Thirty-five-ish years ago my CO (an Annapolis ring knocker) in Hawaii went on a midnight foray the day before the Army/Navy game and "borrowed" the 25th Infantry's ceremonial cannon from Schofield Barracks and had our resident SeeBees hoist on top of our ops building in Wahiawa so that the Army helos could see it when flying over our base. Times were tense for a few days after that. On the plus side, Navy DID win the game. PG

My dad was in the navy and called me up and asked me if I wanted to lose some money. I had to laugh but I said if I do lose you can buy tickets for a flyers game lol so looks like when I go home to visit I'm gonna see a hockey game.

@daniels Delaware County? Philadelphia fronts on the Delaware River from the Poquessing Creek in the north to the mouth of the Schulkill River in the south. I'm about in the middle, near where I understand the Navy ceremonially docks a ship for the game.
