Got one UNC. I like GOLD!

"Silent is Golden" remains me a old song I liked.

I realized that for Commemorative coin, the mintage of MS is less than PF (about 1:2 ratio). Which one should I buy? I like the DCAM of Proof but don't like the high population. What's your opinion?

I personally regard any coin intended for circulation a coin. The Golden 5 dollar coin spoken of will not have the same value as a banknote. Therefore it is made only for the benefit of collectors to stash away in vaults or collections never to be seen by a large public again. You can certainley pay with it, but it will be possible nowadays to make a gold Wheat cent in the year of 2009, just because the fact that Lincoln runs in circulation for 100 years. Will you pay with an golden cent at your local store? If the answer is NO! you get the meaning...

I go with UNC. It seems it has lower mintage number and a better secondary market. However, more people like proofs and it is why the proof sell more. Go with what you like.

I would buy an UNC instead of a Proof just because of the low mintages.

I went ahead and purchased one of each. Got the Jamestown certifications with them as well. Sometimes it pays to have somebody that lives close to events like the one they had there. : )

The Jamestown Gold Proof is really a beautiful coin. Its one of those commemoratives that one needs to see in person. I contemplated using the reverse depicting the remains of the Jamestown church tower for my avatar. Regardless whether it has a low mintage, I'm still keeping it to admire its beauty.

Just read this thread. Even though I am from NY originaly and will be returning there SOON, I bought both the gold and silver proofs for the Jamestown commeroatives. They're diferent from each other, and historical. Lots of history here in VA, as well as everywhere else in the US. I also have an 1892 Columbian, 1925 Lexington-Concord, 6 1982 George Washingtons, 1986 Liberty Ellis Island, 1987 200th anniversery US Constitution, 2002 US Military Academy Bicentenial, and a 2004 Thomas Alva Edison.
