The US Mint recently announced a $5.00 price decrease for the first of its 2014 silver commemorative coins (to be released in January). I wonder if the RCM will also lower the prices on its silver commemorative coins that will be released in a few weeks? Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. Dream On!! It would be very Welcome, I just don't see this happening. They must feel they have a captive audience, since they are the creators of the coins, and even dealers must buy from them. Maybe in two years with dismal sales, it may happen. The dealers and secondary market are the only ones willing to discount the coins currently. There are a couple nice features of the US mint: 1) advance published list of yearly releases, 2) their willingness to reduce prices in relation of falling spot prices. These are 2 traits the RCM could learn from!!

Are you able to disclose how reputable your source is? Does anyone think the mint will be selling collector coins in 2050?

If Canada Post, and other dealers instantly discounts current releases as they just did obvious too much stock, yes they will the market place will dictate it, hopefully the RCM is getting out of hand with their pricing and releases.

Didn't you hear? Silver prices are going up, so are the Mint's prices. At least that's what they keep saying......

No, it will be the $21 for $21 face coin. Followed by the $21.50 for the $21.50 in the Fall, and so on...

I don't expect you to divulge your source. I'm asking how reliable is the person. Do they work in the industry vs are they a plumber. An industry insider, would be more reputable than a non collecting plumber! I was trying to evaluate the credibility of the source! I'm not interested in names/ job titles/ or other specific identifiers. I was speaking in general terms. Thanks for responding! It's a long way off to be making a business decision like this one. I wonder if the mint will be selling collector products in 2050?

Anyway, on my side, I think 2014 will be the year I'll spend the less money for the past 5 years to the RCM... I'm not a frustrated customer, but I'm very upset how they price their product and also the monthly release is ridiculous... As a customer, I have the responsability and the power to decide if the RCM deserve my money, and the answer to this question is NO. And for sure, I know that the coins of the last 2-3 years, their will stay close to their release price and also under because of the too much release and the over-saturated market... So if you want to still discuss about the same thing over and over again, you just have to continue to buy their overpriced coins for 2014 and this subject will continue over and over again...

My initial post was not an attempt to rehash old pricing discussions or complain about the RCM's pricing model. It was simply an attempt to engage folks in a discussion of the US Mint's surprising move to lower its prices on its upcoming commemorative silver dollar (due to the current silver market) and its possible impact on the RCM's pricing for its upcoming silver dollar. The USM and RCM price their annual commemorative silver dollars very similarly. It might make sense for the RCM to follow suit and lower their coin prices as well.

I know @commnens... I apologize but I think that believing the RCM will reduce their prices is like believe that the Santa Claus is real... I look at the latest financial results of the RCM, and if it was a private company on the stock stock, I would not be a stock owner... They don't really have the choice to overprived their product, because their operational cost are so high...
