Bit of reverse legend missing otherwise I would grade it at VF.

Regarding my minor deposit in crack on the owl, thanks for reminding me. I took a silicon mould of it, must retrieve the silicon!

Okay ..... I'm game.

After discovering my favorite Caracalla Sestertius had the dread BD I now notice 'spots' on another (from the same source too).

But as this one is a good one for the challenge lets pretend for a moment that the spots are benign. It will be going for the cure shortly and I wanted some before and after shots anyway.

Sooooo ..... Analyze This !

This is a very interesting coin, especially how pronounced the double strike is. That alone is going to make the coin even more valuable. It has so much going for it as an error, but that IMO also hurts the grade. I couldn't give it a grade other than saying Error coin, No grade.

Which is why I selected it ! I had intended on putting up a nice problem free Augustus As ...... But what fun would that be ? I agree by the way ! I bought it thinking I would turn it over for a small gain. But like the spots ..... It started to grow on me ! I have a nice one of the same type for which I paid double.

Beautiful coin with excellent details and patina. The only slight draw back is the obverse is a little off centered causing some of the legend to be missing and some very slight wear on the high points. I would grade this coin at EF+.

Very generous of you. Probably a bit on the high side for grade ..... but then again for some of the 'slabbed' and graded coins I have seen not bad at all ! I am quite puzzled by some NGC grades I have seen. I bought this one long ago sometime around 1980. It set me back close to a weeks pay back then. My father thought I was nuts ! But as I would be hard pressed to justify the expense today I glad I did.

Being by nature conservative on grading ancients (my politics are anything but !) I give it a solid VF+

I think you were a little low, we should split the difference and call it EF.

I was hoping for a few more 'opinionations' and to average them out ...... but it seems like we are the only two 'clowns' in the circus !

Shall I post another ? Or should we wait for those sleeping late ?
They might all be at the mall looking for markdowns before Christmas !

Rather than post my really 'buff' stuff I looked for something which we can all have differing opinions about.
Whats the point (or fun) really if everyone is in complete agreement ?

Claudius AE Sestertius
Rv Spes walking

Beautiful olive green patina. But what drew me to this one was the style of the portrait. Usually Claudius looks a bit odd doesn't he ? In this example he looks rather dapper. Reverse is a bit flat but it may be the weakness of the strike.

I hadn't looked at this thread yet. FR the double struck coin is so cool. My eyes don't know what to make of it and I just end up going cross eyed.

My grading scale is a bit different than most people

It goes like this:
Way Out of My League (aka Never Gonna Happen Ever)
Out of My League (aka Maybe When I Make More Money)
Super Awesome (aka Three Months of Saving)
Awesome (aka Could buy now but too scared to pull the trigger)
Great (aka Gonna Chase This One)
All right (aka The One I usually end up winning)
Oops (aka Didn't mean to get that one)
Not the Best (aka One Bid won't hurt right?)
Crud (aka Might as well, he does offer combined shipping)
Slug (aka I don't remember buying this!)
