Hey I am fairly new to collecting and am a Canadian collecting Canadian coins, in my travels I have come across many american coins. Mostly pennies. I am wondering if there is a market for american pennies I know that Canadian ones sell pretty easy, but I listed the Americans in groups on ebay and not even a nibble. Maybe because I'm new to ebay? Should I hold them or should I list them all as a lot they are between 1921-2012 about 60 in total. Any advise would be appreciated.

There is quite the market for them. What sort of condition are they in? Were you asking too much for them?

That depends completely on the dates and condition of the coins. Pics would help.

Mike, First off, Second, you'd have to post some pics and give us actual dates for us to make a determination. Most are going to be worth a penny, I'll bet. The ones prior to 1982 (and some 1982s) will be made of copper, so the metal value is a bit higher than 1 penny in those cases. Even the older ones are likely to be well-circulated and not worth much more numismatically than a few pennies. Then again, you may have a gem in there!

The 1921 s is probably your best coin. The items will sell better when you build your feedback on ebay. Nice pictures by the way.

Thanks bassmaster My first listing to sell on the bay ends in two hours. Just keep listing I am trying to keep a wide variety of things listed have some English, and Aussie coins. My goal is to get a collection of penny's from 1900-2012 for my unborn son, so the american's arnt really useful for me but I already have to from 60 till now maybe just keep them it will be easier to get american penny's than Canadian soon

How much are you charging for shipping? how many of them are copper?(pre-1982) To be honest the 56 and 57 imo are not worth listing by themselves. At best (and being generous) I don't see you getting more than $.20-$.25 each. they are worth a lot less than that($.04 give or take a bit) but you might get lucky and sell them for the previously mentioned 20-25 cents. I would try to sell everything as one big lot or the 1921 s and the other 2 Wheaties and list the rest together. how do the 60 and 61 look? if they are uncirculated or nearly so you might be able to get a bit more than just copper value.

Shipping was 1.00 Canada 2.00 us. Thanks Justin I will try again like you said the Wheaties together and the rest maybe try and get 3.00 or something I just wanna get a little chunk of change to buy Canadian pennies I have 2012 to 1947 than some in the 30,s but gonna have to buy the rest of ebay cause I have no more old penny stashes to search for and I asked some banks if what possible to buy them they said nope they are not aloud.

I feel your pain too sort of. The amount of Canadian pennies over here has been steadily in decline for a while now and it's now to the point I usually get 2-3 times as many wheat cents as Canadians and a lot of the ones that are there are really beat up or damaged. I still keep them as I like pretty much all Canadian pennies I can get for 1 American zincoln cent. I don't know what I would do if the us got rid of the cent like Canada. I love the cent roll hunting adventures.

I hear you Justin I have just started to collect coins and the penny was already gone but I have some friends that brought me about 1000 pennys they had saved over the years and I have told others I know I will buy any they have saved up.

US Cents are not worth anything. Especially the older ones with dates and S Mint marks on them like 1909S and the 09S with a VDB on the back bottom. Then too there is that 1914D useless one. So if you have those, I'll take them off your hands for face value. During your travels you may want to try to find a book called the Red Book by Whitman Publishing. In it you would find lots of info as to which ones of our coins are valuable. You can't really go by the prices listed though since they are usually on the high side.
