Just so you know, I'm not the best at grading commeratives...

AU-58, I think I see slight wear in the feather.

Since it's in the old holder, I think they knocked it a bit AU-55, and it would probably grade AU-58 today.

Whoa! 64 with a CAC! Great coin. I was way off! I'll blame it on the glare in the original photos, but that's a cop-out.

By the way, were Roanoke halves shipped in tab holders? Am I imagining tab toning at 3 and 9 o'clock?

Thanks Speck!

Not sure about the tab, I just relooked and didn't see anything to my eye that looks like a tab tone but I have untrained eyes.

I spent a long time between this coin and some other PCGS 65s the guy had. Its interesting. When looking at this coin alone it was by far the most appealing and sharpest looking. But when I held it against the 65s the 65s had the grade for a reason. Found a few noticeable things consistent in the 3 65s he had that were missing in the 64(w/CAC). Mostly, the 65s have a really nice texture on the hat on the obverse that was flat in this 64. However I went with this one anyway, felt good about it and trusted my gut.

Now that I looked at it again. I do see something that looks like it might have been in a tab. However its on the reverse at 1 and 11 o'clock. Not easily visible from these photos but definitely pronounced on the coin itself. Toned more heavily in those 2 spots.

Ended up passing on it for the time being. It has a wonderful look but I'm learning to be more patient. Especially with the more common coins I'm finding it better to wait.
