...otherwise why pay for tracking. Dropped a small envelope with a home-printed-postage label w/tracking, in the mailbox outside a large PO. Figured they would scan it IN before sending it on it's way. NOT! My local small PO does. That was Saturday night, and it was only going from NY to MA, and no tracking info yet. So from now on I'm bringing everything in to be scanned no matter how inconvenient. Just a bit of a rant

You're expecting to see USPS tracking data before delivery? The next time I see that will be the first.

When I have used the DIY Koisk at my PO, tracking shows up when they scan for the truck leaving my PO.

I guess I am spoiled in St Louis Every single Delivery Confirmation package I have mailed(>200) has been scanned through the main sorting facility before leaving St Louis, regardless of whether I drop it in the box 20ft from my front door or at a post office.

I usually - not always- see the initial scan. Not once, ever, any enroute information until delivery has been confirmed, and the enroute steps only appear rarely.

I've had some where the final delivery scan never happened, and recently one where the only two scans were the initial one and the delivery scan but they're usually pretty good about tracking it there. The ones where stuff was missing were all first class level except for one missing delivery scan on a priority package. Though oddly enough my last express package to pcgs took two days to get there instead of next day, but on the bright side that means shipping was free after I get my refund for that.
That's about all I want to say so I don't jinx my next shipment but I always make them scan it in and give me a receipt when I drop things off.

Yeah, thanks. It was a small, not very valuable ( ebay sale) package with $1.69 postage. Guess it was an experiment at this particular PO. Will have them manually scan it in from now on or use my local PO. So far, my neighborhood PO has scanned everything that I've dropped in the outside box.....takes 'til the end of the day, but at least they do it. Thanks. Ed

Funny, some tracking finally appeared late yesterday. Only 6 days after I mailed it. Let's not be in a hurry now. BTW it was going to CA, not MA as I originally stated. It was delivered today.
