i have one similar in our collection, well the head is, my father found it in the desert in libya in the late fifties early sixties

It's from Libya. Egypt also had some kings who appear in fezzes, but the tassel makes it Libya.

nalaberong- Ah, I had wondered it if could have actually been north African as opposed to West Asian. Thanks!

Any guesses as to the date?

believe the date is 1952 and I think the coin is either a Millieme KM#1 or a Piastre KM#4

This is KM#1, a 1952 1 Millième coin from Libya. The head on the obverse is Idris I and the Arabic words read "Idris the First" to the left and "King of Libya" to the right. On the reverse, the Arabic words in the centre are "1 Millième 1952" and on both the sides, it simply says "Millième".
