Hello All, Here is an 1908D Barber half dollar I just picked up. What grade do you give it? and how much do you think would have been a fair purchasing price? Thanks!

Looks AU and cannot tell if those streaks on neck and cheek are from a cleaning or wipe?

The hairline scratches across the neck and cheek say "cleaned" to me. If that's correct then any grade is moot.

Most definitely cleaned....in mid-AU range.

I would say AU55 Details. Even though it is cleaned, it is still attractive. There is a market for coins like it. You can check the ebay sold listings to see what similar coins have gone for. I would think $150-175 would be a fair price for it.

AU55, and I believe the jury's still out as to whether or not those hairlines are deliberate. My personal leaning is towards "deliberate," and some of my thinking involves the area of differing finish directly in front of the profile. Barber halves get pricey in upper AU due to heavy circulation - the last few 1908-D PCGS AU55's at Heritage all went for over $400 - so it's a pretty important distinction.

I'd go a little higher and say AU-55/58. It may have been slightly wiped with a cloth, but I dont think it is harsh enough to merit a problem holder. The luster is very strong throughout the obverse fields and the entire reverse. It's a nice coin, and tough to find in this state of preservation. It would make an excellent addition to a 7070 type set.

PCGS would definitely grade it 'details' for cleaning.
Otherwise, looks to be about au55.
