What do y'all think? Clipped planchet or another example of someone with too much time on their hands destroying a coin?

Hello Andy
I would say clip but only because the edge is rounded and not flat. it looks like someone played with it too but I will go with clip this time and see if I have it.

I'm all about competition gary

I'm gonna disagree

There is just too much "damage" around where the clip is for it to be a mint error.

Notice the weakness opposite the clip- that is a diagnostic known as the Blakesley Effect that is present on most true clip errors. The tapering of the clip is another diagnostic.

Biokemist's theory has my vote right now, but I'd really like to know more about the 'b' in Liberty and how it relates to the creation of the coin.

I see your point GO. I am still not positive that it is a true clip I would have to see the coin "because of the condition" to know that for sure and I do see some of the charistics of the half on Biokemisr6's post. I have been wrong before though so I like you will wait for the answer from someone that collects this kind of error.

The O on the reverse and 6's in the date being struck into the area of the Blakesley affect(beveled area ) says this is a clip .

The B is damage .

Thanks for all the responses so far. I was surprised to find this awhile back in a roll of quarters I picked up at the bank. I thought it strange that no one else removed this from circulation since it was so noticeable.
