I have several pre-1965 Mint & Proof sets in the OGP cellophane. It worries me that the coins will be damaged over time if they remain in the original packaging.

I am thinking about transferring the coins to hard plastic holders like these: http://www.jpscorner.com/marcus-min...n-cases.html and keeping the OGP and the new holder together in the set's envelope.

Would this help or hinder the sets value?

If you remove them from the OGP, it's not a "set" any more.

Grades generally mean more than packing. The most important part is keeping the coins in great condition. Even the rarest of mint sets will likely be worth less with subpar coins than individual nice examples pieced together of the same year would be.

Daves right it wouldnt be a set anymore, but you wouldnt be the first person to break up a set for value reasons.

Are there any indications the coins have changed during the time youve had them?
