My brother-in-law wants to finish his Proof set. He's missing 2008 and has everything else in OMP. What is a fair price? They seem to be going $12-16 + shipping on the Bay, but that seems a bit high to me--but on the other hand, I collect neither State Quarters nor proofs.

And are we better off on the Bay, or should I hop down to the coin shop and see what they've got there?

EDIT: Proof state quarters set. I missed that bit.

Hop on down to your local shop and see what they have to offer. I try to support the local dealers whenever I can.

The ebay prices sound about right. I'm pretty sure a proof set has to be broken up to get those, I think only the Silver proofs are sold on their own. If a stores close you might as well check it out if not I'd just get one on ebay.

The highest priced proof set since 1999 are the 1999, 2008 and 2012.
The 2008 and 2012 are the highest for the clad sets.

For 2008 both the clad and silver quarters did come in separate five quarter sets.

I always check the site "coins by bobby" just to get a price range.
He has the 2008 five clad quarter set for $49.00

From my experience ... Plan on paying more for the 2008 proofs then you
would for other years.

Edit ... I forgot to say, if you can get a clad quarter set for less the $20.00 I think you were getting a good deal.
