Does a punched hole at the rim of a large cent make it worthless? Looks like a hole made to wear it as jewelry.

Thanks

It definitely reduces the value, but not to "worthless." No Large Cent does not deserve to be preserved for future generations, and a holed one was likely a contemporary effort. There are those who specialize in collecting them.

Thanks for the reply! Just picked up an 1852 with a hole through the rim straight across from her chin. Grade I think without the hole would be VG-8.

It kills the value and for me personally, I wouldn't even buy the coin but the coin is still easily sellable if it's a key date.

It reduces the value significantly, perhaps to a just a few dollars. Not that they shouldn't be preserved for future generations of collectors but they just don't have a lot of monetary value.

It is collectable. Would I collect it? No.
