Hold on to your Kupang's coins Sel. As far I know, Kupang is in Timor, not Aceh. Not all coins they found are not from Aceh, some does. Most of them are from Turkey, even though they found them in Aceh.

TRIBUNNEWS.COM , BANDA ACEH - The Mystery of the origin of the two types of thousands of gold coins found in the Village Pande , District Kutaraja , Banda Aceh began to unfold . It turned out that the historical objects , dating from the Turkish Ottoman Empire and the Sultan of Aceh .
Thousands of copies of the first kind Dirham coin -sized one thousand dollars , was minted during the reign of Sultan Sulaiman ibn Salim of the Ottoman Dynasty ( Ottoman ) in Turkey .
This, the researchers revealed the cultural history of Islam , Taqi al-Din Muhammad, who conducted a study of the Dirham .
" Originally it was revealed thanks coins obverse coin inscription reads ' Sultan Salim bin Sultan Sulaiman Shah ` uzza nashruhu dhuriba Mishr sanah 927 fi ' " said Taqiyuddin , Tuesday ( 20/11/2013 ) .
That sentence , he said , means " son of Sultan Salim Sultan Sulaiman Shah - hopefully strengthened victory - printed in Egypt in the year 927/6 ( AH ) . "
" Sultan Sulaiman or also better known as Al - Qanuniy was the 10th ruler of the Ottoman dynasty in Turkey and has been ruled in the past that a long time since the death of his father Sultan Salim on H/1520 926 AD until his death in 974 AD H/1566 , " he explained .
Meanwhile , one other type of coin -sized buttons that are found in the same place after investigation of a sultan name printed in the history of Aceh . Written on the face , " Alawuddin bin ` Ali Malik az- Zahir " . While the back is written " As- Sulthan Al - Adil " .
According to Taqi al-Din , Sultan Alawuddin is the son of Sultan Ali Shah Mughayat which is considered a pioneer of the revival of Aceh Darussalam in the early 16th century AD
Data corresponding inscriptions (words inscribed on stone or stamped on the coins ) which successfully revealed headstone tomb of Sultan Alawuddin tomb complex is located in Cage XII , Banda Aceh , shows he is a supreme sultan in Southeast Asia in the century .
" It is the destiny of the Almighty alone , the Islamic world at that time was corroborated by the presence of the two leaders of this people , Al - Qanuniy in the West and in the East Ri'ayah Shah , " said Taqiyuddin .
The discovery of dirhams Sultan Sulaiman Al - Qanuniy dirham inscribed in conjunction with ` Ala'uddin Ri'ayah Malik az- Zahir Shah in the Village Pande recently become concrete evidence of the existence of a very strong relationship between the two rulers of the Islamic world .
" Both are likened to the two brothers who have contributed a lot of good for Muslims in the 16th century , " he said .

Samuel,
Regarding your question "I wonder why after all these years, the gold coins untarnished, look like new?", Gold is what is called a "noble metal" and it does not normally corrode. I have seen Spanish Gold Doubloons pulled off the ocean floor after 250 years exposure to salt water and they look like they were made yesterday.

From Wikipedia "The noble metals are metals that are resistant to corrosion and oxidation in moist air, unlike most base metals. They tend to be precious, often due to their rarity in the Earth's crust."

Actually, I have set eyes on only one (1) gold koupang from Atjih. One of Australia's leading coin dealers had it at a coin show about 10 years ago. I bought it for AUD$60.

I have to admit, I knew nothing about it, but the dealer gave me all of the noted references and also a reference ( Mitchener) to a photo. All of that was noted on the 2x2 which holds it.

I saw lots of old gold jewelry and coins in the past. My dad was the largest gold dealer in small town Semarang, Indonesia. Indonesian bought and sold gold a lot like American today, since Rupiah value continuously declined. But I don't remember seeing gloss like that, now I learn. Thanks jfransch.
I watch a video about Indonesian simple elderly woman, a peasant from a very small island called Banana Island in South Sumatra. She plants cloves all her life. I was surprise that she gauge the value of her products with gold. I never knew that simple people like that thinking like business people.
Well, Sumatra's original name in Sanskrit language is Suwarna Dwipa or means Island of Gold or Gold Island. There are some gold mines in Sumatra, but I guess it must be a lot more in the past.
