So I think (thanks to the help here so far), all my coins will be just for the BV, which is fine.

I do have a couple of Morgan dollars, all well circulated too, just reassure me they are too just worth the silver. Thanks.

They will never be less than, melt value no matter what condition. Were you hoping for better than melt ?
1886 is a pretty common year. If it is an O or an S mint mark, it is worth considerably more. What a well worn Morgan is worth however, is a legacy of history. An MS or AU Morgan most likely spent decades in a vault or a drawer. But just sit back sometime and imagine the stories that a well circulated 127 year old Morgan could tell.

Indeed I was hoping for better than melt. Looks like that would be around $15. It is a cool coin, and cannot see melting it for that. Hoping it was more so someone could appreciate it more than me.

I was hoping to bolster the coin in your eyes. It is a common date, but it is not in bad shape. XF to AU condition. It is not a 1889 CC , but it is a Morgan, very popular these days. When we talk about melt value, we mean the base silver value, no one is suggesting that it be melted down. Some one will most certainly pay more than $15 to put this coin in their Morgan album.

And to the forum.

Can you see if there is a mintmark. It will be under the eagle on the reverse. As a rule of thumb any Morgan dollar with original surfaces should sell between $25-$30 unless it has a scarcer date or mintmark.

I'd buy every Morgan I could get at melt value, except it's been several years since I've seen one. Anything under $30 for a Morgan is a good deal.

Here is the reverse, nothing like a mini mark.
