WELL, its a type I've been after but I've never been able to get one for a reasonable price. 24mm is the upper end of the sizes for these (you did well) and its in nice nick. Id pay no more than £10 for it, you'd probably get in excess of £20 if marketed properly.

Ive been holding out on buying one until I find one >25mm.

If you dont know about the issue, then you should find out. By this point, the empire ran on small change - Valentinian II issued basiclly only teensy little coins now the size of minims. Soon, these little bronze coins would be so worthless that they had to be used in bags (the latin term being Follis - a bag, hence the larger denomination's name in modern times).

But they still issued AE2s, but in much much smaller numbers. These dwarfed the tiny little minims. Its interesting to own them - I myself got a Zeno one, much later on when coinage seems to be completely gone bar scarce monograms on tiny flans.

The legend, REPARATIO REIPVB means 'Restored Republic' - indeed, Rome was in dire straits, but restored it was not. Most coins at this point give off an opposite message - SPES PVBLICAE (Hope for the Republic), SECVRITAS REPVBLICAE (Carefree republic) etc. FYI - these translations arent accurate, but they give the gist.

Could this coin be fake? The details on the cloak kind of spark my suspicions.
