It's Both!

When I was in the Air Force they didn't give out challenge coins, so I decided to make one myself. The host coin is an Ike dollar carved with the mascot of the 32nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, Gomer the Wolfhound. The inner circle was cut deeply to reveal the copper core. Anyone else have a challenge coin?

very nice!

the only challenge token I have (my avatar) is from a high school fraternity. Beta Phi Sigma was founded 1899 in Muncie Indiana by 7 childhood friends.
it went on to have international university chapters.

the challenge token was stamped from a late 1800s Indian Head cent by Dyers Jewelers who were known for supplying fraternity type tokens, medals and rings. they stayed in business over 100 years before closing their doors "due to international competition".

I vaguely recognize the design on your carved Ike from another user's avatar... maybe he will have something to say about it.

I have a challenge coin from my dad's time in the Sergeant Major's Academy. If I find time I'll take and post a picture.

I have quite a few challenge coins. Spent eight years active duty AF and now have about eight in the Air Guard. The OPs coin is way cooler than any of mine. I'd love to know how you made it.
