Hey all. Here is another coin, one that did not make it into my Christmas thread. I am having trouble identifying this coin. I'm not sure if it is Titus or Vespasian. I have found at least two different answers so I'm leaving it up to the community to figure out.

Titus-Or-Vespasian?

Edit: Diameter-28mm, 10.95g, dupondius, cost $39

It is Titus as Caesar, RIC 742 I believe. Can be found on Wildwinds.

The T gives it away as Titus.

Nice price too!

Some careful cleaning could improve it.

Isn't RIC 742 COS III, not COS II?

My kind of acquisition ! You are learning to be patient my friend (almost always pays off)
Best thing about a coin in this condition is that at a glance you can tell it is genuine ! The seller has left enough 'crust' on the surface for you to see that while it is at least an F condition with some patient work you will have a very pleasing coin with only a small amount of effort to tidy it up. Surface conditions like this just can't be faked easily.
You found the proverbial 'diamond in the rough' !

BTW it is easy to see at a glance that it is Tito as Caesar. You will be an expert in a short time !
You will never go wrong with 1st century AE's ....... They are always desirable esp people like Titus who have 'Biblical' ties (temple all that)

My favorite color too ! The green ones are always the sweetest. Great job hunting done the elusive prey !

With proper conservation you have very nicely patinated dupondius with strong full legends and a 'bold' portrait. Retail approximately $100

Thanks guys! I had a feeling it was him. I'm still learning about the 1st century coins. They are often out of my price range I am planning on cleaning this one up a little bit more. I'll post some after pics once it arrives and I can spend time on it.
