Good Evening All!
Please assist in grading my 1880-cc Morgan silver dollar! I am new to grading my own coins and am not confident in which reverse/variant this coin happens to be. I viewed the pictures within the morgan forum but am a newbie! A dealer offered me $75 today which seemed odd seeing as where he used a 2012 official blue book while having right next to it a 2014 official RedBook. Thank you for your assistance!! I am no Morgan expert. I would think this coin is about an F12. $75 seems like a reasonable wholesale offer.

I'm no help on the VAM but someone here will be soon enough.

$75 sounds fair enough. It looks VG/F and possibly bent a touch so unless there is a value added variety, that's a decent offer.

I think VG-10 and $75 is about right.

It is a reverse of '79 or slanted arrow feather and appears to be one of the large mint mark varieties. That's is close as I can get from the photos.

I think it makes F12, and I think that should you become a regular here and gain the selling privileges, you can get more out of it from a collector here.

Having both the blue book and the Red Book is a common practice.

They buy by the blue book and sell by the red, thus making money to keep the business alive.

(Although I have to wonder why would a seller use the 2012 book - that's a bit fishy. Some of the coins went up significantly in price since then (while others stayed the same / declined a bit)).

Thank you for the reply! I'm not looking to sell what I have rather wanted a rough estimate of worth. I bought the new bluebook and the difference in worth was about $40 in his favor so my suspicions were confirmed. I've been looking up other Morgans he wanted to buy for $19, though I had no intent to sell, and he was very dishonest.

Hopefully you fine people will assist in furthering my grading skills over time!

I'm in agreement with the previous opinions of grade/value. This one is VAM-9, not an added-value variety.
