Strange.

The "O" in the word "DOLLAR" has become unravelled.

This had been in circulation and nobody noticed the error until I found it.

Anyone have any ideas about what is going on here?

Almost sounds like it took a hit from something. Probably just PMD

yes, that's what it appears to me

PMD = post mint damage

that and lots of other terms are in the glossary on the menu at top left of the screen

It is just PMD but you can still try to figure out the VAM #. What year is it? Do you have pictures of the rest of the coin? It might not be possible to figure out because you coin is so worn but check out this website, http://www.vamworld.com

I agree it looks like an O, there were no Carson city coins minted in the 20th centry.

Likely PMD but could be a planet flaw.

It's a Philadelphia coin, and it is PMD.
