I picked up thirty 50 cent pieces from my bank last month. Usually they are all nickel but there is a silver one in there - 2001 no P. I know it is silver as a magnet does not pick it up. It is not dark like the nickel ones.

My album and Charlton only show 2001P. Where does this come from and being circulated, is it worth any more than silver content? And by the way, what is the silver content?

If it is silver its a proof,
If its a proof silver its not plated,
If its not plated there's no p

P means plated

So it must have been taken from the 2001 Proof Set. Since it is in circulation I would think it would only be worth its silver value. In PR 67 it had a cat. value of $15.

I think it was a pretty neat find nonetheless. It has very few marks on it.

If you haven't already, you should start a 1968-2000 pure nickel 50c collection. Fun little set to put together and I threw the 1998-W and 2000-W into mine as well.

With 29 nickel 50 cent'ers, you have decent start.

I kind of am doing that. Just from coins I picked up from a couple of banks I am missing 9 - otherwise I'd have all to 2013. I have had to buy three or four non circulated so far but not doing too badly.

I only have two silver 50 cent pieces. I'm not much into that at the moment.

There you go!

Quarters are the fun one from 1968-2001. Mine is a mix of circulation and mint set coins, since I didn't want a date break during 1997 and 1998. Also wanted the caribou 25 cent from 1999 and 2000.

Lol...I just realized I am missing a non-mint marked 1998 quarter. Hafta see if I can find that one.

I have all of the nickel dollars although most are in circulated condition. That I don't mind as they are not worth too much mint anyways.
Been working on my silver dollar collection this year. Most are AU50 or better. Missing a few from the 1950s. Have the '47 blunt but still need the '45, 47 point, '47 ML and the '48. Finishing that up in 2014 is my goal.

Sounds like you are well on your way on those. I'm running the dollar collection from 1935-1987. Most of my nickel dollars are PL from mint sets, as they weren't much more expensive than circulation coins. Only have 1945, 1947ML and 1948 to go. Be a long time before I cough up for a 1948. Even in lower grades a downright expensive coin.

DoubleEagle-I only had to buy two nickel dollars. The rest I picked up circulated from three banks at face value. Did you collect many varieties on the silver dollars (like arnprior and various waterlines)?

The yellow lighting and dark colour at the bottom are due to kitchen lighting and shadows.
Nothing spectacular here but fun as find at face value.

No, just doing a date set. I think a couple are more common varieties of water lines, etc. I'm just a date and mint mark kinda guy. Next coin is a 1945 in EF that looks decent...non cleaned or whizzed. Last couple I've seen have been cleaned.

Surprised I found the 2000-W and 1998 no mint mark Ottawa quarters so easily. ebay can be definitely useful at times.

Nice find on that proof. Some dad's collection must be missing a coin somewhere...lol.
