I am into the sesterti last weeks, already bought about 8 of them of several emperors.
I accidently made a bid of 311 instead of 31 and then won the auction for 45.. Contacted the seller about my mistake and was able to make an agreement for 32 euro's. Very kind of the seller.

I shall post my other sesterti later this weekend.

33mm 21,4 grams

When Commodus came into power, it was anything but the return of happy days...

Speaking of Sestertii, theres some lots on ebay coming up which have some interesting things in them...even spotted a IVDEA CAPTA sestertius in one of them. PM me, if you're interested, and ill give you a link to the lot with the CAPTA in it, but the guy has a load of other lots too you'd probably be interested in.

I have a couple of Commodus.
Hysterically insane guy. Used to amuse the crowd by killing the sick and disabled.
Slaughtered elephants and other large, exotic animals.

I like this coin!

Yes, the apple fell far from the tree in this case.

If you won the auction for 45, wasn't there an underbid of 44? If so, the seller really was kind to come down to 32.

Thanks all! You are right augustus, really kind of him. Because the last bidder made the bid after me, the sales price would be 32 as well if I made the bid as intended of 31. Anyways, I'm happy with this one. I shall post new pictures when it arrives.

Looks much nicer in your pics than the dealers. Nice chocolate color. For the money it can't be beat.
I like all ancient coins but if given the choice between two average antoniniani and one 'fat' sestertius with a bold portrait .......
The choice for me is fairly easy.

I in no way mean to denigrate anyone's personal preferences regarding purchases ! But for 'bang' for the buck .......
Happiness is a nice sestertius !
