This is an auction I recently stumbled upon. I had some extra Xmas money left over and thought it might be fun to try and win something of this magnitude. Problem is, I don't have a good feel about the value of of this mishmashed micro-hoard.

What do you guys think? If you were bidding, what would be your maximum bid and what do you think the actual value of all this is? Of course, I know any answer I receive would only be, at best, an educated guess, but I'm still interested in hearing your thoughts.

I'd especially love to hear from someone who has handled one of these hodgepodge auctions in the past to see if it was a positive experience or something you'd prefer not to duplicate.

That's a big mixture of coins, sets, currency, bullion, and other items. If sold again, it would almost certainly need to be split into groups or individual items. With that in mind, it would take a lot of effort to get it ready for re-sale.

I wouldn't even know to begin. Good luck though. I guess you could start buy adding up the value of the silver as I see quite a bit of it in there.

You don't...you simply walk away.

Not to be flip...
Try to count up the silver, add face value for the rest and forget about the jewelry....imo

I would not go for it unless I could see it in person IMO... This is an internet auction, right?

The only way to evaluate a lot such as this is to examine it personally at a view day, prior to the auction.

This the sort of lot that re sellers can make big bucks on, but they must do a big favor unto themselves to look at it detail first. It would be 'grist for the mill' for a coin dealer.

Personally I would stay away and find something better. It looks like its mostly if not all common things that would be hard to sell individually and they deemed wasnt worth the effort of doing so.

I bet that if you bury this mess and water it every day, it'll grow into a shady gold-buying kiosk.

OK, so we have an ultra-low offer from B for $200

Morgan and Fuzzy say they'd bid $500. Fuzzy also most helpfully said it might be worth $750 tops

Baseball didn't like it but he also didn't offer a total value- not much help there, my friend

Well, the auction currently sits at $410 and will end in less than 10 hours and I'm still on the fence.

Anymore advice, people. Tick, tick, tick

I looked...there isn't that much actual silver in the pile. Yeah there are some random coins scattered through the mess. I didn't see a kitchen sink, but random everything else including some cob pipes...

Most of the rest is odd mint sets and certificates...

I think $410 is probably fair but I also wouldn't pay more for it.
