Another for the Heraclean Campgates collection. Wrongly advertised as Constantine I, its really Constantine II.

This is the only silvered example I've ever seen - its a good proof that they did it though. I've got a few coins clearly from a hoard and they didnt have any evidence of silvering on them.

Nothing new, design wise. I've already got an example from this die cutter too. I'm getting more and more of these - hopefully ill be able to pick up a couple of the Constantine I and Constantius II ones to anchor as dates and ill be able to order them chronologically.

It's amazing the silvering survives for that long. Cool coin!

I would imagine that a fully silvered example would cost $hundreds.

Unfortunately, there would be a great temptation for the unscrupulous to attempt silvering.
THAT would make me doubt the authenticity of such a piece, and lead me to make a rather disastrous judgment against it, it it were genuine.

Nevertheless I would be tempted to pay a considerable amount for a similar example to this, with more silvering.

I certainly like this one. Congratulations!

I can't remember seeing another one from this late period (AD325 or so ?) with any silver at all. I found a Licinius two years past with nice silvering and was so surprised I grabbed it for $25. If not for the silver I surely would have passed on it.

Well, this was only £1.50 but the guy set the postage at a ludicrous £3.50, so I paid £5. And yeah, it is odd - I've seen other silvered Constantine IIs and Is (theres a nice hoard of fully silvered ones making the rounds) - but they arent common. The design of this one is about midway and later in Constantine IIs reign, but ones of earlier style dont show any signs of silvering. Including the mint state ones I've got. Perhaps it wasnt done at the mint?

There might be silvering on the bricks of the campgate - I'm going to leave it in a long term bath when I get it.
