I understand these are scarce compared to other years. Is there a real market for them? I have a few that I stuck back that I may use as trade fodder if I can find somebody interested in them.

The mintage figures for the 2009 Jefferson nickel shown below represent the US Mint's final production figures for the year.

I pulled the following numbers off the internet:
__________________________________
Mintage
2009-P Jefferson nickel 39,840,000
2009-D Jefferson nickel 46,800,000
Total 86,640,000
___________________________________

The kicker is that the majority of these nickels are still in the depository (never released for circulation). This has created an even bigger circulation shortage in addition to the low mintages.

I'd say that if you want to sell that you should do so sooner than later. Eventually the rest of the 2009 mintages will sift out of the vaults, and although still 'rare', the quantity on the market will increase dramatically.

They are rather hard to find when roll searching. I finished up a box yesterday and found a single 2009-P, compared to scores of 2008s and 2010s.

I am sure members on here (including me) would be interested in getting a few for our personal collection.
Regarding market for these, your best resource is checking ebay for current and completed listing. Good luck.

I'd be more than happy to trade. I don't like them.

Went through 2 boxes a few months ago and found around 25 of the Ds. Only one was a nice AU, the others weren't too hot.

Lets not forget the dimes for 2009 are rare as well.

I knew about the scarcity of the 2009 nickels but did not realize the dimes were the same way when I tossed back half a dozen a few months ago, now I'm digging for a 2009P dime to fill a single hole;-(
