I recently purchased from GoldMart a sealed tube of 20 1oz (Golden State Mint) silver Buffalo rounds, they are very nice sharp rounds in comparison with my other Buffalo rounds, but one thing troubled me when I held them in my hand, the didn't sound right, so I did the sound test with 2 coins clinging each other, they certainly sounded different,
the one from Golden State ment had a dole shor lasting sound, but my other silver rounds ( even with different designs) had a nice long ring with a smooth fade out.
How can this be? ASE, maples and other rounds of the same weight sound the same, but this one doesn't sound right?
I did the magnet test and the asset test after I filed down quite a lot, the weight is normal too!
I called the company up and they told me that they take them strictly from the golden state mint.
does anyone has any clue?

I think the sound "test" is nonsense, myself. There are too many variables to accurately detect silver purity by simply clanging two coins together, IMO. Even using a magnet isn't much good if the forger took the time to demagnetize the fake. Anyone can buy a decent demagnetizer on Amazon for the cost of a couple pizzas. Of course, any fake coin made of cupronickel wouldn't react to a magnet, anyway. If you want to mar every bit of bullion you buy, which would be incredibly time-consuming if you're stacking silver in large quantities, the acid test is pretty reliable. Maybe invest in a nice XRF analyzer and then you'll not only be golden, but you can reliably test your precise golden ratio.

Sound tests are subjective, imprecise and therefore unreliable. Checking weight, dimensions and specific gravity is a better idea than getting worried about sound.
