OK, I bid on this dime yesterday because I really like the look of it and it would fit perfectly with the dimes in the surrounding holes. So I took it to absolute max full retail value. Actually .50 over. Yet someone out bid that. Just a case of someone willing to over pay, or did I miss something? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1924-D-MERC...p=true&rt=nc

I think someone may have just liked this coin. I double checked the CPG and there's no varieties listed for anything before 1928-s. Not sure what they saw tbh.

I think it's either a case of someone wanted it more, or they thought it was just a great looking coin form the photography. You don't get the best photos on the Bay. :)

You missed being the fool soon parted with his money. Also, an excellent seller with a loyal following.

With 6.8 million minted I wouldn't pay that much either. You should be able to get a real nice one for under $10.00.

Bid mania or bidiots. Gotta love ebay ! People love to win and a .99 cent start lets em go at it.

Be happy you lost out. So many people get caught up with bidding stuff. Also, at many times a seller has someone up the bidding as much as possible to get as much as possible. My Son used to do that all the time when in college. All the kids would play that game on ebay. Consider your self saving some money.
